about david keith

David Keith is a drummer, singer, composer, and producer living in Hartford, Connecticut. He currently plays with rock legend Ritchie Blackmore in Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Blackmore’s Night ( Says the famously particular Blackmore, self-described as “fussy about drummers playing in the groove”, “Dave plays in the pocket like a metronome, without losing the finesse.”

On April 6, 2018, Rainbow released the live double CD+DVD — Memories In Rock II — featuring audio from the 2017 UK tour, as well as interviews and behind-the-scenes footage on the bonus DVD ; Rainbow released the DVD/CD set — Memories In Rock - Live in Germany — in November of 2016, with the follow-up double CD — Live In Birmingham 2016 — released in May, 2017 .

Over the course of his decades-long career, David has toured the United States and Europe with numerous acts, most recently writing, recording, and producing as one half of the sibling indie pop duo, Mission Zero ( The duo released its fourth album, Easy Tiger, on July 27, 2017. Other acts include Connecticut swing and R&B icons Eight to the Bar, the dynamic progressive rock group Mighty Purple, and singer-songwriter Daphne Lee Martin. He also enjoys working as a session and touring drummer, most recently with indie acts Wall of Ears and Omega Vague.

Additionally, David designs and builds custom drum hardware systems made entirely of reclaimed and recycled materials, seen most recently with his Rainbow and Blackmore’s Night drum kits. David endorses Dream Cymbals and Gongs, Aquarian Drumheads, and Vater percussion. David plays Ayotte drums with Rainbow and Blackmore's Night.
